Testimonial: AMHYCO Mobility Program

UPM(1)
A Journey of Learning and Collaboration at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid

Between April and June 2024, I, Miriam from Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), Germany had the opportunity to participate in the AMHYCO mobility program (WP6) for PhD students.

I chose to stay at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) for four weeks at the research group of Gonzalo Jiménez. In the beginning I had a training course on the thermohydraulic containment code GOTHIC which is used by the UPM team within the project.

Besides getting used to a new code I had a lot of fruitful discussions with UPM-PhD student Luis Serra about ongoing project work.

The major focus was on the differences between the codes GOTHIC and COCOSYS (used by RUB) and the resulting difficulties and challenges in transferring boundary conditions and results correctly and as required from code to code.

It was a very enjoyable time, during which I gained very valuable work-related insights.

Besides this, my UPM-colleagues made me feel very welcome right from the start and helped me to get to know and enjoy the Spanish way of life, at least for a short time!
